Ho Ho Ho
So Christmas this year was especially rememberable. Is that even a word? It's late. Anyways, I think I'll quote my sister directly on this one from when we were about to arrive at home to surprise my parents for Christmas. "This is so cool, it's like a movie!" That pretty much sums up my experience over the past couple of weeks and leading up until today. A few weeks ago I booked a surprise ticket home to see my family and friends for the holidays, and after talking to my dad every day since then, I only almost blew the secret twice (but didn't) In my mind I had to come home for Christmas for multiple reasons non of which are more important than seeing my mom and dad. I wasn't about to let this be the first Christmas in my history on this earth that I didn't spend it with my lovely family (including Nicole). Long story short, the surprise went off without a hitch, it was a Merry Christmas, and I prove yet again that I still got what it takes to keep my parents on their toes. My sister got me a bunch of t-shirts and I got her a shot glass from the San Diego airport, but I don't think any gift exchanged today was more valuable than the look on my parents faces when they saw this crazy kid walk through the door from California. Dad, I assume you got the tab on the ticket right? Even if not, it was worth every penny. Merry Christmas world.

Weirrrrd
So for the first time in my life today I received a Christmas card from my parents. I keep forgetting that Christmas is right around the corner, I think it has something to do with the weather conditions in San Diego. haha. The card also came with a sheet of paper that my dad apparently sent out to close family and friends that breaks down what our whole family has been up to in the past year. It's pretty impressive when it's all on paper like that. Here's some highlights:
Dad: Being superman basically working his ass off so we can live our lives comfortably
Mom: Traveling to Europe with her sisters and best friend
Being a trooper and over-coming huge obstacles with a smile and good heart
Nicole: Finishing up her Masters, living on her own, working as a nanny for cash
Now has goals of becoming a Doula . . . yea, look it up.
Me: Moved to Utah, dream ending knee injury/surgery/rehab
Saved up $ at the Board of Elections and moved out to San Diego for the journey
Ski Bum . . . check. Surf Bum . . . check.
Us Meeks' are an impressive bunch. I love my family, no matter how far away they are!

Rain and Rap
So, for the past week or so since I got my surfboard, it's been on and off rain and very cool. This is really the first real lousy weather i've experienced since i've been here so i can't really complain. It looks like tomorrow is supposed to be a little better out so I actually might take the board out and give it a go. I guess we'll see. In other news, I entered a "singing" contest so I can flash my skills. It's got a $500 purse, and there's about 30 entries. Bunch of rappers/singers/whatever so i'm just gonna try it out. Worst case scenario I get my first stage experience under my belt, best case scenario I get $500, a photo shoot, and CD duplication. I don't know anything about the San Diego scene so this is a good way to find out. The event is held by MidCity Records at the Mira Mesa Epicentre, it's called the "Battle for the Paper". It's this sunday so I gotta get 4 songs ready to perform. More on this later.

surfboard and 30h!3 concert

My new surfboard. 6'10 Realm.
$100
So Friday was a good day. I finally bought a surfboard and wetsuit for under $150. Then friday night went to Soma to see a sick concert. These guys have been on tour all across the country for the past 2 months and supposedly this was their biggest crowd on the tour "by far". There were probably 2000 or so people it was hard to say, but the place was crazy. The venue is an old movie theatre in the back of some plaza, its sick but they don't have a bar which is laaame. Nevertheless, great day.
audio is messed up for some reason

Whoa
So I was woken up today by a call from my mom. She asked, have you heard? I was a little confused but eventually collected enough information to turn on the tv. There was a jet crash in San Diego this morning and it happened near an air base about 4 miles north of me. At that moment I could hear helicopters off in the distance and was officially awake. Situations like this are a good reminder to all human life. You never know when it's your time. 3 people were killed and it goes to show that no matter how much effort and consistency we put into self-preservation and safety, there is no way around the fact that we all need to live for today, and be grateful of what we have . . because there will most likely be no warning for when it is suddenly taken away from us. GO UB !
sooo whether you know or not. While I was at UB I was an avid sports fan, whether they won or not because I was raised to love college sports and I probably will forever. So it's a busy couple of days for UB sports. 2 nights ago UB basketball lost at home to #2 UConn by 4 points. This made me recall one of the last UB basketball games I have been to. In 2006 I was there to witness UB host #2 Pittsburgh, only to lose by 3 points. It's awesome that our boys can play at this level, but it would really help their cause if they could win a big game. (not even mentioning the 2005 conference championship game they lost that would have put them into the tourney that I was also at in Cleveland) . On a more positive note, UB football is right now, as I type, playing for the MAC conference championship on ESPN2. NEVER thought I would see the day, really. I'm glad, but am also expecting this game to live up to UB's close but no cigar history. They are playing an undefeated Ball State team that is currently ranked 12th in the nation and is looking to hopefully play in a BCS bowl (although unlikely). Either way, UB sports is on the up and up. Hopefully someday we'll all be able to speak UB and Penn State in the same breathe without laughing. GO UB!

Making it official.
So I haven't ever had a "team" in the NFL, but I always told people it was the Bills just cause I lived close to them. That was an hour 1/2 drive. I now live literally 5 min. away from where the Chargers play, so I think I need to make it official and say that the Chargers are my new team. You can't say i'm on the bandwagon because the Chargers are doing no better than the Bills. There's a game here in San Diego tonight against Oakland, thought about getting tickets, but figured I might as well wait to see Denver later in the season because that game might have playoff implications. So i'm gonna sit my ass down and watch the game cause I literally have nothing better to do . oh yea, as for the BOE boys, it feels nice to sit back this week and find out who i'm gonna beat next week to get to the money game. lAtER
